Making it as an Internet Entrepreneur
It always was a huge wide world out there, beyond our offices, homes, towns and cities, and that was made significantly larger, and still increasing every day, thanks to the Internet and the World Wide Web.
For so many of us, the Internet provides a heavy source of knowledge, news, entertainment, shopping, communicating with family and friends, and money; the list could still go on, and on, and on. For those in their forties and above, it’s still a matter of adjusting to a technological world almost alien to that of what they grew up in, yet for those in their early to mid-teens, it’s the only world that they’ve ever known.
Everything that we know on the Internet was once created from scratch by someone, branded by someone, marketed by someone, and made successful by a combination of all these factors plus time, money and dedication.
In more cases than not, an Internet venture has required the help of multiple individuals; each willing to dip into their pockets to provide the necessary funds to get the business going, and then sharing their expertise to ensure the business fulfils its purpose and doesn’t disappear into the depths of the huge online swamp. With billions upon billions of live webpages, this is the risk that every Internet entrepreneur must take.
It’s all about collaborating to reach that one collective goal, and there are many success stories of the last 15 to 20 years of now instantly recognisable brands first popping up on the World Wide Web.
As part of a new blog series, we’ve identified some of the most successful Internet entrepreneurs of recent times and will be profiling each over the course of the next few months.
While some may not be names we’ve come across before, we will all be familiar with the platforms that they have helped to create and, in one way or another, shaped the way we use the Internet, consume information, and engage through social media. Ultimately, they have played a significant role in shaping this generation, and many generations to come.
